Bergdorf Goodman Honored at Annual Culture for One Gala to Promote Arts for Foster Children
The nonprofit organization Culture for One is preparing to honor Bergdorf Goodman with its Inspiration Award at its annual gala this fall.

Bergdorf Goodman recibe un homenaje de la organización sin fines de lucro Culture for One

The event, scheduled for November 3 at the Edison Ballroom in New York City, is expected to attract 200 guests, marking the organization's 15th anniversary. The organization is dedicated to sharing the power of the arts with New York City children in foster care. Many of the stylish attendees will recognize Harold Koda, former curator at the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, who, as a member of the Culture for One board of directors, will present the Inspiration Award to Melissa Exides, chief retail officer at Bergdorf Goodman, in recognition of the company's support and partnership over the past three years. Thanks to this enhanced support, Culture for One has been able to expand its arts grants, cultural trips, and creative arts workshops to reach more than 3,000 children annually.

Strategic Partnership to Make a Difference in Underserved Communities
In 2023, when Bergdorf Goodman established the Bergdorf Goodman Foundation Fund, the goal was to create a philanthropic initiative that would uplift underserved communities in New York City through the arts. At that time, Culture for One was selected as its first beneficiary. Together, they have helped marginalized youth through diverse cultural experiences and positive, inspiring role models, empowering them to recognize their talents and feel bold enough to explore the possibilities of the future.

“Bergdorf Goodman’s support enables Culture for One to increase the number of children it serves and the richness of its programming,” said Susan Kasarski, the nonprofit’s executive director. “In our historic 15th year, we are thrilled to have the continued support of an organization that prioritizes giving back to our community and understands the transformative power of the arts.”

Arts as a Tool for Empowerment and Future Building
The organization aims to provide opportunities in the arts that inspire creativity, build confidence, create community, and expand opportunities for the future. The luxury retailer is approaching a significant milestone of its own, as it is a nearly 125-year-old New York institution. Expressing the retailer's pride in supporting Cultur for One's mission, Exides, who has worked with the luxury retailer for over six years, said, "Their tireless work provides invaluable access to the arts and empowers young people in New York City to achieve success and prosperity."

Guests at this fall gala will see live performances by two groups of young singers and some dancers. There will also be an art exhibit featuring artwork created by children participating in Cultur for One art classes. Funds raised at this event will be used to further expand Cultur for One's arts-based programs, which empower children to build resilience, forge meaningful relationships, and envision a brighter future.
